Sampling teas with True Tea Club

Friday, April 21, 2017

Today is #NationalTeaDay and to celebrate, I have been sampling some of True Tea Club's finest teas. I love my tea but am very traditional in my choices, veering between breakfast and peppermint tea. This was a chance to sample some of the most exquisite tea flavours from around the world and I jumped at the chance.

True Tea Club is based in York and has 9 types of tea available: White, Green, Black, Oolong, Rooibos, Honeybush, Herbal, Fruit infusions and Chai.  So much choice for a dedicated black tea lover. The Club is a monthly tea subscription scheme that delivers various loose leaf teas to your door every month.  Every month, they deliver four fresh and delicious loose leaf that have been hand picked from all around the world.  Better still, it’s 100% natural and boasts a number of health properties and antioxidants.

My pack included four very tempting offers, The Rainbow Chaser, The Earl Grey rebel, The Mighty Mango and Vanilla Cupcake.  I really wasn’t sure where to start.  Armed with my favourite duck infuser (you will need a decent infuser or strainer if you try loose teas), I decided to try the Rainbow Chaser, mainly because I had no idea what to expect.  When I opened the pack, I understood its name.  A range of bright colours appeared, all from the herbal mix of apple pieces, blackberry leaves, peppermint and orange peel.  This was so refreshing and with a lovely fruity flavour- almost a fruit salad in a drink!

I wasn’t overly keen on trying the Earl Grey Rebel, mainly because I just don’t like Earl Grey.  However, the addition of bergamot and orange really lifted this and I found myself making a second cup.  My third trial was the Mighty Mango, a green tea with mango flavour.  I have always wanted to be a green tea drinker as it is so good for us and finally I have found a version that I like- result!

Last up was the one that worried me the most, the Vanilla Cupcake- what on earth was going on?  It turns out that this is a rather lovely vanilla rooibos tea with banana chips added for extra taste.  I expected this to be sugary sweet and I couldn’t have been more wrong.  I ended up liking this one very much!

I like the fact that True Tea Club works as a company to support small grassroots suppliers and work with growers.  Even better, the teas really are delicious.  Why not give them a try for some really different brews?  You certainly will see a big difference from the tea we know in teabags- no comparison!
