I was making some lovely pea and pesto soup from a recipe provided by my best friend, Rachel.  As I was making it, I considered what makes peas so good.   They have to be one of my favourite vegetables and I use them in all sorts of recipes such as soup, stews, salads and casseroles. When I was a child, my Dad used to grow them on his vegetable patch and I loved eating them straight out of the pod.

Here are my 5 top reasons to eat peas

1) Brightly coloured food is said have more more nutrients and be better for us

2) They are full of fibre but have no cholesterol

3) They have more protein than many other vegetables and so keep us full for longer

4) They are a great source of Vitamin B and folates, which are good for the blood

5)  They taste great
